Introduction
Cao de Castro Laboreiro is a herding dog originating from the village of Castro Laboreiro in the northern mountains of Portugal.
It is also known by names like Castro Laboreiro Dog, Castro Laboreiro Livestock Guarding Dog and Portuguese Cattle Dog.
Since time immemorial, these large dogs have been used as diligent flock guardians. Although they tend to be hostile and wary of strangers still, they are usually docile with the people they are familiar with. Nowadays, these dogs mostly serve as guard and companion dogs.
