Dutch Shepherd Dog

Introduction

Dutch Shepherd Dog, also known as Dutch Shepherd, Holland Shepherd, or Hollandse Herder or Hollandse Herdershond is one of the most versatile shepherd dogs. The breed originated in Netherlands.

This rare breed is recognized by the Continental Kennel Club (CKC), American Canine Registry (ACR), Dog Registry of America, Inc. (DRA), Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI), etc. However, it is not recognized by the American Kennel Club (AKC).

Dutch Shepherd Dogs were originally used as farm dogs but gradually people also started using them for herding, guarding, cart pulling, police work, bomb detection, drug detection and other similar purposes. Besides, they do well in tasks like field trailing, agility and obedience competition.
