Introduction
French Spaniel also known as Epagneul Francais or Épagneul Français is a handsome, medium-sized dog. The breed was particularly popular in the Middle Ages as a setting dog for net hunting. As the name suggests, the breed originated in France.
This versatile pointing dog can retrieve on dry land as well as water. It is considered to be a distant descendant of the long-haired Chien d’Oysel breed dogs.
Earlier, these dogs were used as game bird hunters, especially used for hunting woodcock and grouse). However, with the passage of time, their importance decreased as against English breeds.
