Pedigree dog food line is a subsidiary of Mars, Inc. The pet food company mostly uses ground whole corn, meat and bone meal, corn gluten meal, animal fat, ground whole wheat, and chicken by product meal in its dog food recipes.
It maintains that corn serves as a good source of energy for dogs and improves their skin and coat condition. However, it has been observed that certain dogs are likely to be allergic to this ingredient.
Hence, most other dog food brands avoid using it. Moreover, Pedigree dog foods usually have insufficient meat content and contain artificial colors and preservatives.
Thus, Pedigree dog food is not considered healthy in spite of being quite popular. On the other hand, in terms of price, dog foods by Pedigree cost less. Plus, the company offers a wide range of recipes for dogs of all ages.

Most Popular Pedigree Dog Food: Pedigree Wholesome Nutrition

Pedigree Wholesome Nutrition with Chicken, Rice and Vegetables is a dry dog food formula. Its first ingredient is ground whole corn. However, it is usually considered better to have animal protein as the major ingredient.
Moreover, large amounts of corn increase the risk of food allergy in some dogs. Corn gluten meal is a low-quality ingredient that offers inferior grain-based protein.
Chicken by-product meal is again a poor-quality ingredient containing agricultural waste. In the next ingredients, the source of animal fat, and meat and bone meal is not specified.
In addition, the product includes BHA, which is a controversial preservative. Besides, it contains beet pulp that is considered as inexpensive filler though high in fiber. Plus, the formula does not have probiotics that help in digestion. It uses artificial color, too.
Nevertheless, this Pedigree dog food recipe includes healthy constituents such as chicken (placed lower in the order, though), brewers rice (aids in digestion), peas, carrots, whole grain, etc. Furthermore, most pet owners have observed that their dogs liked the taste of Pedigree dog foods.
Reviews for Pedigree Wholesome Dog Food
Review by Lynrie “Oh HELL no” from Dallas, Texas
Stumbled upon this while looking for a mix-in with dog’s usual dry food which had either a change of recipe OR heatwave-affected rancid smell. Either way, he wasn’t eating the “old stuff” as heartily as before. This was received very well mixed in and as a stand-alone. I still like the ingredients of his regular food better BUT if he won’t eat it that’s not good either. So mixing them both makes it an enjoyable win:win.
I like the zip top bag to preserve freshness and minimize the Raggedy Bag issues I have. LOL
Review by Mark Anthony from Hawaii
Supposed to be a tasty meal of Chicken, Rice & Vegetables. However, look at the ingridients, the main ingridients are Corn products which is unhealthy for all dogs. The ‘rice’ and ‘chicken’ are by-products which is a lowgrade ‘meat leftovers’. The so called vegetables portions are ‘Carrot Powder’. This product is not a healthy option for your dog and should not be on your short list.
Your dog might love eating it, because it’s doggy junk food, but it’s not healthy for him
